About this conversion

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, but that makes photos much larger than they need to be. Converting to JPG applies efficient lossy compression built for photographic images, typically shrinking file size dramatically with no visible quality loss at a sensible quality setting.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?

JPG uses lossy compression, so there is some quality loss, but at quality 80-90 (this tool’s default range) it’s rarely visible to the eye for photos. For graphics with sharp edges or text, PNG usually still looks better.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG has no transparency support, so transparent pixels are flattened onto white before encoding. If you need to keep transparency, use WebP instead.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens with your browser’s Canvas API, on your device. The file never leaves your computer.
