About this conversion
Converting a static GIF to JPG applies photographic compression on top of GIF’s already-limited 256-color palette -- useful mainly for reducing file size further or for compatibility with JPG-only workflows. Note: only the first frame of an animated GIF is used.
Frequently asked questions
Does this preserve animation?
No -- only the first frame is converted. JPG has no concept of animation, and this tool does not extract other frames.
Will color quality improve?
No -- JPG can’t add back color detail the GIF’s 256-color palette already lost. It can only add its own (separate) compression on top.
Why convert GIF to JPG at all?
Mainly for smaller file size or for tools/platforms that specifically require JPG input.
