Will this work on an animated GIF?
It will decode and convert the first frame only. There is no frame extraction or animation support in this tool.
Will the PNG look better than the GIF?
Color-wise, PNG isn’t limited to 256 colors, so if your source image had more color detail than GIF could represent, PNG can represent it more faithfully going forward -- though it can’t restore detail the GIF’s palette already discarded.
Is this lossless?
Yes, PNG encoding itself is lossless -- no further quality is lost in this step.
