About this conversion

HEIC is the format iPhones save photos in by default, but it isn’t reliably supported outside Apple devices. Converting to JPG makes your photos openable everywhere -- Windows, Android, older software, and virtually every website upload form.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I open my iPhone photos on my PC?

They’re HEIC files, which many non-Apple apps and older software can’t decode. Converting to JPG fixes that.

Does this work in every browser?

HEIC decoding depends on your browser having a built-in decoder. Safari usually can; Chrome and Firefox often can’t. If decoding fails here, that’s your browser’s limitation, not a bug -- try Safari, or export as JPG directly from your iPhone’s share sheet instead.

Is this the same as changing my iPhone’s camera settings?

No -- this converts files you already have. To have your iPhone save JPGs going forward, change Settings → Camera → Formats to "Most Compatible".
